Once he gets over both his loneliness as a God figure and his regrets, he can find happiness that's all Nazarik really wants for Ainz, anyways. He clings to the past too much, and it's going to end up hurting him in the long run if he keeps looking for them forever. How would another player or more complicatedly, a former guildmate of Ainz's react to his actions, and by extension the actions of the NPCs? I can't imagine someone that has no problem with Ainz's methods being particularly open to being friends with him and would Ainz, or rather Satoru in this case, even want to be friends with a person like that? So all of this begs the question, can Ainz even have a happy ending?Īinz could have his happiness if he could ever accept that nobody will ever be on his level ever again. How would this person react to Ainz's actions, when Ainz has on multiple occasions, directly or indirectly murdered and enslaved entire swathes of populations for extremely petty reasons.
OVERLORD CALCA SERIES
There's probably no better example of this than Calca, who was perhaps the only person in the series that was actually interested in being friends with Ainz despite his reputation and status as an undead, but as a semi-direct consequence of his aforementioned internal timidness, she ended up as collateral damage in Demiurge's plans.īut let's say that there is someone that's open to being friends with Ainz, whom he didn't immediately push away or alienate, they'd have to be at least somewhere near his level so as to not end up collateralized by the NPCs, like Calca. However because of his anxious and fearful nature he constantly pushes potential allies and friends away, by either being too guarded or by going along with the NPC's overly cruel whims. And since Ainz is undead he'd spend the rest of eternity in essentially complete isolation by pretending to be someone he's not, is that really a happy ending?Īinz when we first meet him is sad and lonely reminiscing on better times with his old friends who are now gone, wishing to return or recreate the same environment and he's continued to internally express that exact same sentiment ever since. I've seen some discussions about if Ainz deserves a happy ending, but I feel a better question is can Ainz have a happy ending, and if so what would that even look like? Let's say Ainz accomplishes his "goal" of conquering the world with the NPCs, who in reality are complete strangers to the real Ainz because of the facade he keeps up due to his crippling fear of rejection/embarrassment.
